As far as I am aware this is just a generic Fiat 127, I have the original owners manual for it.

Apparently there were no series 2 or 3 made here so no 1300cc's around.

There was the sport version here so I think the 1050cc "exists" but finding one out of the XX amount made here is pretty slim and as I noted above there are only up to 2 "127s" left on the road that are road legal from what I have been told by a Fiat specialist here, 1 of which is my own.

    Thanks all,

I am currently in the process of sorting out a minor clearance issue with my rear brake lines then I am off to my fabricator to get a pair of these leather bucket seats fitted and some 3 point retractable seat belts mounted.

    * The current seats in the front are out of a Toyota Celica

Then I need to remove the gauges in the dash and also in the panel and make some new glass lenses and may fit stainless ones ring surrounds.

I also need to get another boss kit so that I can use the Nardi Torino horn for the steering wheel instead of the filler in there at the moment.

I'll also be getting some new carpet put in, the current carpet was custom made during a restoration in the 90s but the edges have seen better days.

The 9000rpm rev counter is more of a target than a limit ;)

Yes, as I stated above I have a friend who will be making me some custom HEL stainless lines, I think I will do a 90 degree right off the metal bracket and aim it right towards the drum.

(I had to lie on the ground before work and just aim my phone up into any gap I could) Not the best image to depict how it is/was rubbing but the hose literally pushes up against the inner rim, mine looks EXACTLY like 127-UWE's "brake3.jpg" image above when not clamped

Lowering it excessively balloons the hose out towards the wheel.

Bear in mind that I have ~4cm lowering blocks installed in the rear with the 8" wheels so is low and as you may notice the cable no longer goes "down" to the drum as the drum is now pretty much higher than the bracket where the metal line ends.

    * Disregard the metal hose clamp as this was last minute and temporary to get me to the wheel alignment that I had booked in which was 100 meters from my house.

    * I initially used cable ties to do this and drove it up and down my driveway hitting the brakes hard and the cables snapped so used the metal clamps to get me down the road and back.

    * I do not think this would be an issue with 7" wheels or smaller.

I'm not sure if there is any difference in these per continent as this is a RHD version made in New Zealand but the metal line is shaped to go in from underneath and up through the bracket

Tbh if the metal line looped in from underneath the chassis to face downwards it would look wrong.

There are no issues with clearance when using the stock wheels and even the cromodora wheels I had in here previously which were 5.5", but with these 8" wheels they are FAT on the back with little room anywhere.

    Ok,

I just found out an old mate of mine who owns a clutch and brake business can do custom HEL brake lines so he's going to make me a set.

I think I'll go 90 degree from the chassis and straight line it to the assembly. (But will assess that once I have it apart again)

Thanks for the straight line tip.

if you use straight-in braided brakehoses instead of the banjo style mounted versions , its a lot easyer to avoid them touching the inner side of the rims.

    Thanks,

Are you aware of anything off the shelf that would work in this instance, or am I going to be looking at getting some bespoke ones made up?

I have had a quick look online this morning and a lot of the ones with the correct male/female fittings are all 30" or longer, I'll have a more in depth look tonight when I get home from work.

    Hi there,

Anyone lowered their Fiat 127 excessively with 8" wheels in the rear and had to modify their rear brake lines?

I have lowered mine with 8"xET0 and the rear brake lines connect with the inner wheel/rim.

I initially cable tied them out of the way and that lasted for a 10 minute drive where the cables broke under pressure.

I then used metal hose clamps as a temporary measure to get me to the wheel alignment which succeeded until I got home and found the rear brakes leaking fluid.

What are you all using for "stanced" Fiat 127s?

The car drives really well now, almost like the original, no rubbing etc.

I just need to sort the rear brake lines out and then this car is ready to go to my interior guy to fit some new mid back bucket seats and fabric/leather.

I was thinking of buying stainless lines and modifying the mounting bracket to suit.

    That looks perfect!
    I want one. :)

How does it drive, being so low?

Hi there, as per my above comment I am still tweaking all the suspension settings.

My final result is to have it driving as smooth as possible but as one may know even fitting blocks onto these Fiats it creates a bit of bounce.

So far without touching camber/caster/toe it is ok BUT - as I have rebuilt my steering rack and also added camber bolts and lowered ALL settings will be well out of spec.

So if it is driving "ok" now with only me aligning via measurements, then after a full alignment it should be pretty good.

** NOTE: I am waiting on front coilover suspension to be made - temporarily I have had my front springs reset by 65mm (which I think were originally Alfa 33 springs(which are apparently already 3cm lower)) and the shocks shortened to suit.

Lovely 127. I saw it in the net already. How is your street condition in New Zealand? Bumpy streets are killer for that rear tires. Do they shave to the body with two passengers? It looks very tight.

    Cheers

    Oli

New Zealand streets range from some of the best in the world to some of the worst in the world, I have driven it around the block a few times whilst testing and feels all good, it definitely gets looks and a few beeps from traffic (only 4 of these in NZ apparently).

I guess 2 passengers would be max - even with the rear seat I can not see 4 people in this car haha :)

I bought this car as a play toy to mod on the side because my wife hated me drag racing my daily 700hp Mercedes and having to fix it before Monday to take to work and drop off the kids to school so I decided on something I could play with and not have to worry about.

There has been quite a bit done to have them all fit (I still need the camber/toe/caster adjusted) as I have only just fitted everything and that should make it drive a bit better, I am 90% into having it driving smooth.

***** FOR ANYONE IN THE FUTURE

I have had to roll my guards flat.

I have had to use camber bolts on ALL 4 wheels front and back, to "ADD" and to "REMOVE" camber.

Rear brake lines had to be "tweaked".

Rwd style bump stops to limit upwards travel for the rear wheels so they don't smash into the chassis. (I have not needed to fit these as I currently have 0 rubbing)

The front chassis where the steering rack is requires trimming to allow for some travel.

CV Boot bracket RHS "may" need fabricating for upward travel BUT personally I already have a custom made 5 speed box which has a larger driveshaft/tripoid hole so may be ok.

However I'm still figuring it all out as it is my weekend toy and with kids etc only get to play with it every other weekend, but can fill everyone in regarding stance tips when I find it all out if requested.

very nice car. Give it the ats with 4x98 fit for fiat?

The ATS are 4x100 I am using wobble bolts to accomodate up to 2mm offset which are not a problem.

I have 5mm spacers up the front as with the 7" front wheels the tie rod ends almost rub on the inner wheel, the 5mm spacer is a bare minimum and I have used longer wobble bolts with them.

The wheels arrived, 7x13 ET20 front and 8x13 ET1/0 rear, I have started refurbishing them, still undecided on what colour they will be painted, looking at a silver but not sure on the shade.

I should hopefully drop them off to get them machined this week.

I will continue to refurbish them when I get them back.

I need to test fit them to see how they fit and what I will need to alter to suit.

    Thanks Chris,

Yes I have seen that thread but did not want to bump an old thread with added questions

I have read and reread Marcus's original thread (either on this site or another) where he showed the driveshaft damage and what he did to modify it and the boot so I have that in the "book of notes" - along with possibly redesigning a couple of mounts to let the engine sit a little higher for this, will have to assess this with my engineer "during" to see if there is any better way to do this.

In that thread you linked to they mentioned his guards are flared slightly but not cut or chopped, I missed that beforehand so I am guessing he would have rolled the lips slightly, they don't look pulled, I need to roll my guards regardless, even the 5.5" Cromodora CD30 style wheels I have on there now rub with 175s even with all new shocks and bushes fitted before even going lower.

My ATS Classics 7+8x13 have arrived in the country so should have them this week, 2 weeks earlier than expected, then I can get them machined and start some test fitting before setting the height and making things fit/work.

    Thanks again for the link

    * FYI - I do use the search feature, just when searching google etc in English not everything shows up, when translating to another language not everything makes sense, THEN I find a thread that has what I need but I need a visual reference and the pictures are no longer are valid and do not appear, bit of a pain.

Sorry for the translation in my original post, it came out all over the place ...

Yes we have curbs and there are issues with lowered vehicles in New Zealand but I am set on what i want to do and have aquired 80-90% of the items needed for what i want to do for now, i just want to know who has done it to this level and what issues they may have ran into so I can prepare for them before commencing the work

The wheels are about 2 weeks away as seen in the above pictures I will need to refurbish them repolish the lips and repaint the centres and have them machined before fitting

As for ride quality I am not too fussed as this is not my daily and will never be a racecar so not after perfect handling, just something to stand out and look different and thrash round the backstreets on the way to every other Caffiene and Classics meet

I have a 700hp AMG as a daily so for smooth ride quality with racecar performance that ticks those boxes

Looking at the white car in the pictures there still looks to be enough clearance underneath while having it sit flush
